Most households across the rangelands cook with firewood or charcoal. Trees are being over-harvested to meet demand, and in parts of the region charcoal has become an export commodity — with serious environmental consequences.
What we plan
- Small-scale biogas plants producing methane for household cooking and heating
- Promotion of gas and solar energy alternatives
- Training local technicians to install and maintain systems
- Awareness on the health benefits of smoke-free kitchens
